I installed Growl because I do want to be notified, I just don't want to be interrupted. When I don't run into the problem I mentioned, it's great - I can see a notification without being forced to do anything to get back to work.

The problem of overzealous notifications is altogether different - I keep the set of enabled growl notifications very small.

I agree (lists some of my pet peeves). Software Update annoys me: Hey! You there! Drop everything and reboot NOW! At least one can quit it.

I'm curious: why did you install Growl if you don't want to be interrupted?

Uh and Safari’s stupid ‘this download may contain a program sheet’. That feels very Windows like.

And definitely a problem in OS X. One of those problems which are hard to shape into a bug report that's dumbed down enough to meet Apple's standards. It's more about 'the feeling'.

Another favourite of mine is the dialogue iChat pops up in front of all its windows when the connection to a service breaks down (and those to gmail frequently do...) This seems to be considered better UI than just quietly reconnecting.

The web site thing is annoying too, but I can’t blame Apple for that. del.icio.us is the worst.

Apple Mail: This is the single most annoying thing in the entire world, bar none! This drives me insane. Several times I have considered changing email clients because of this. It is fundamentally broken behavior. Arrggghhhh!

Wose than just an interruption is when you have full keyboard access turned on. In that case, you’re typing away, a dialog pops up, you hit spacebar during your typing and end up activating a random button on a dialog you had no time to see.
